My back is giving me trouble, so I’m not certain I’ll make the full trip after all (my Jeep is not the most ergonomic vehicle) but while I’m on the road, you’re welcome to watch my progress, because who doesn’t want to be surrounded by adoring fans while in the middle of nowhere?

I’m not making rapid progress because, well, back and distractions, but the iOS app !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! has created a nice route for me, so while I can I’ll keep following it.

I remember my mom typing on a stenotype. She thought she might be a court reporter. One semester of listening to boring court tapes while practicing stenography changed her mind.

I need to research them sometime. Curious how they work.

There’s definitely something to be said for interstate highways. I’ve been driving forever and have barely left my neighborhood.

It’s basically a typewriter with fewer keys. The typed words are phonetic, so it takes fewer “letters” to make a sent ence.

When I attended high school, there were no more than two dozen computers in the building. I took typing class because I had done a little computer programming before and I knew it would be useful; iirc, there was only one other boy in the class.

Anyway, I practiced typing in other classes by “ typing” out what the teacher was saying, hands in the air at my sides. Apparently this got a little distracting because I recall at least one classmate hissing at me to stop it.

I wish I had taken a typing class in high school. I taught myself touch-typing after I bought a computer in college. I’m still not very good, but I get by.
